What is STEM? (And what isn't)
Abstract: This paper will present a simple and easily-applied model to both understand what really constitutes a STEM lesson, and provide a clearer view of what each of the terms, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics each signify in terms of identity, process, and outcomes. As has happened many times before in education, when a new word or phrase is discovered to be a meaningful and useful descriptor, a subsequent proliferation in its use can eventually nearly deplete it of its meaning and usefulness. It has been said that eventually, even furniture is eventually described as somehow being TPACK, and we can see this even now with STEM.
