Biography

Dr. Masahiro Yachi is a researcher at Benesse Corporation, an educational company in Japan, where he coordinates business-academia collaboration. He received his B.A. in Environmental Information, M.A. and Ph.D. in Media and Governance from Keio University in 2002, 2004 and 2010, respectively. His primary research interest is to develop technologies for supporting learners' active participation in building their own learning environment. As a part of his doctoral research, he developed a web-based customizable video editing system called Partage, and proposed Learner-Customizable Learning Model and its applications. With Partage, learners can bring in their own personal video that includes personal viewpoints or favorite video that includes personal interests, to create their own learning contents. Grounded in constructionism, learners can collaboratively study through editing and creating their personally meaningful contents.
