Online Self-Assessment Before Enrollment
The paper on hand discusses the introduction of an Online Self-Assessment prototype (http://medienlabor.hs-osnabrueck.de/misa/) in the bachelor program “Computer Sciences in Media” at the University of Applied Sciences in Osnabrueck (Germany). The aims of the implementation were to inform prospective students about the contents of the study course, and help to verify their preferences, potencies and weaknesses always considering not to frighten off the prospective students and thus to decrease the basic rate of interested people. The introduction of the application was accompanied by the continuously increasing amount of dropouts at German universities especially in mathematical and technical fields of study. Overall the Self-Assessment tries to allay misconceptions and false expectations and, in addition, reduce the amount of dropouts.
