Effect of COVID-19 on High School Computer Science Growth in Alberta

  • I have read the paper and am amazed that even with the influence of COVID there is room for growth in CS. What kind of events do you think would lead to significant growth of CS?

    • Thanks for the comment and question Ken. At least in our province, CS has grown pretty explosively in the last dozen years. I imagine this will slow eventually as it reaches its S-curve capacity in the province, but I don’t think it’s there yet. Some rural areas and smaller cities still don’t even have CS programs to speak of and teacher education in the area in relatively new. That said, there may even be another growth spike when our K-9 student population reaches high school after thorough CS exposure in their earlier education.
