This paper assesses the need of an automated office environment and analyzes the implementation framework to pick candidate application in order to conduct a pilot deployment of such a system in university administration at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Automating document transactions among various departments within the university is a major focus area of this research work. The Apparel and Communication Technologies (ACT) Department at the university was chosen to collect data for 20 days. Depending on the volume of document transactions among departments, the pilot plan for the deployment is set to go between the ACT Department and the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Based on the review of the literature and the data collected, it was determined that a beta test of using Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 to transmit documents to the Dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics would be a reasonable way to evaluate a more streamlined process.
