Abstract: The proposed session highlights best practices for online professional learning based on lessons learned from the implementation of the Innovation and Inquiry (pseudonym) model with city teachers over the past three years. The Innovation and Inquiry approach, developed by a university-based research and development center, is designed to build the capacity of schools to move from transmission teaching to a culturally-relevant student-centered approach. The presenters will share core elements of the model and a process for implementing the work online. Research-based lessons from recent projects, instituted during COVID, will also be discussed. The work is built on existing best practices in the professional development field. The authors argue that online professional learning can be a catalyst for advancing teacher education more broadly.
