Abstract: This poster session explores new pathways to develop pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) and topic-specific content knowledge (TSPK). Kansas State University’s Master of Arts in Teaching program is in the process of combining secondary content colloquia into a “one-room schoolhouse;” students from across MAT secondary subject areas (i.e., English/language arts, mathematics, modern languages, and social studies) gather together virtually in a single course. Although each subject area has its particular curriculum, objectives, content-specific products, and identity, combining secondary content colloquia (three separate, two-credit hour courses) into a single class with individual sections creates opportunities for collaboration. We hope to create a clear, engaging, and relevant culminating activity for each of the three courses that would be exposed to peer review beyond the disciplinary boundaries of a specific content methods class. The goal for each of the colloquia sections is to deepen content knowledge (i.e., understanding, organization, and depiction of key content and skills) as well as PCK and TSPK (i.e., combining content knowledge with a sense of general and specific teaching strategies, students, and technologies for teaching within context). The poster session describes specific products used across subject-area colloquia, justifies their importance, and invites participants to suggest alternative online collaborations.
