Abstract: Problem Introduction: Digital badges or credentials are becoming increasingly critical as employers and educators seek to build a 21-st century workforce with verifiable career-ready skillsets. However, use varies as compared with other assessment methods for assurance of learning. What Was Done: This paper reviews digital credentialing for use in student assessments and electronic portfolios. Digital credentialing educational recommendations and educational best practices are developed for application within an increasingly digital academic environment. Why This Work is Important: This paper presents several successful guidelines and strategies for educators during a continued period of education digitization through a prior literature review and information systems competency framework aligned for assessment and digital credentialing.
