Abstract: Humans learn by observing and listening in on others and they collaborate in shared tasks, as well as in flexible and complementary roles, (Adamson & Emmett, 2021). In children’s museums the focus is creating hands-on learning experiences for children to engage and to explore (Lee, 2020). Creating a space that promotes participation, play, learning, and engagement requires intentionality. Scholars have used different terms and categories to define play, and they can be roughly grouped in the children’s museum context as sensorimotor, make believe, or constructional play. Planet Word’s Word Worlds combines all three types of play through a technology based ubiquitous learning space to promote cognitive, social, emotional, linguistic, and physical development for early childhood aged learners.
