Using technology to develop deep mathematics.

Abstract: For students to move beyond passive reception of information and toward deeper more meaningful interaction in mathematics it is necessary to use technology to pose and explore problems, not just to increase speed of problem solution. An ability to pose questions, even if immediate methods of solution are not readily apparent, is a major goal in mathematics education. When students truly understand the questions being asked, they can select an appropriate technology to explore possible answers. If the questions asked are not understood, then no technology will provide meaningful assistance.
