Abstract: The P21 Framework of 21st Century Learning lists creativity as an essential skill that all students need to thrive in a digitally connected world. While there is an abundance of research that describes the relationship between teaching methods and creativity and technology and creativity there are fewer empirical studies that describe how middle school teachers use technology to nurture creativity in different content areas. We bridge this gap in the literature with a qualitative study that explores 18 teachers' level of access to technology in Pennsylvania schools and their use of both low- and high-tech tools to support middle school students’ creativity in Science, Social Studies, and the Language Arts. We found that even though most teachers had moderate to high access to technology only some of them were leveraging these technologies to nurture creativity. Our findings have implications for teachers, teacher educators, teacher-scholars, and policymakers.
