Share Paper: Lessons Learned from Competency-based Education Professional Development in Elementary and Middle Grades Mathematics

Abstract: Bold concepts are needed to enhance the professional development opportunities for current mathematics educators. This best practices session will discuss the implementation of a multi-state, multi-year, federally funded competency-based education program that aimed to meet these needs for elementary and middle grades mathematics teachers. This session will discuss the successes and lessons learned from the creation and implementation of this program, as well as possibilities for how to move such large-scale programs forward in our current environment.
