Collaboration between Facilitator and Researcher in a Professional Development Course for Online Teaching
Abstract: Virginia Commonwealth University is a large public university which offers thousands of online courses annually, and the VCU Online professional development team (the PD team) provides faculty development and support in online learning. As the growth of online learning has occurred at the university, it has become apparent that more support for faculty is needed; however, the need has increased for programmatic review as the PD team creates new courses and revises existing courses. This paper presents the PD team’s strategy for creating ‘on-time’ professional development material while maintaining high levels of rigor and accountability within the PD team.
