This research was intended to discover whether multicultural awareness can be fostered in an online graduate reading course taught through asynchronous technology. With the changing population and classrooms being more diverse (Lopes-Murphy, 2012; McGuire-Schwartz & Arndt, 2007), teacher candidates need to be challenged to step out of their cultural comfort zones, examine their multicultural attitudes, and expand their knowledge of multicultural issues in education (Gay and Kirkland 2010). Overall, the students articulated strong desires to be the best possible teachers to all students in their current or future classrooms, including diverse students in every category. They found the course to be enlightening but did express some fear and concerns.
