Abstract: Intense pressure to meet accountability goals in mathematics and language arts have resulted in reducing the time teachers spend on teaching science in the early childhood grades. Remote learning elements can extend the time teachers have to teach science and serve as a complement to in-class science instruction. By sending remote elements home, teachers can engage children and their families in meaningful science learning. If preservice teachers are going to use remote units in their teaching, they need to know how to develop and/or select high quality remote learning units.
