Abstract: Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) is a model that changes the approach in the classroom from that of a traditional lecture-based curriculum to one of collaborative student learning guided by process and focused on inquiry. Over the past few years it has been incorporated into the computing discipline, initially in introductory courses such as CS1, and more recently into next level core courses. In this work we look at integrating this approach in a less direct way into a senior project course, Capstone, based on an ongoing undergraduate research project in automatic speech recognition. We use the process oriented approach and merge it wit inquiry learning, though without the guided part that is integral to POGIL.
