Videos on Creating Games and Animations Lead to Student Success!

Workshop (F2F) ID: 59690

Abstract: Teaching Game Design classes online due to Covid posed a challenge. I had to find a way for my students in the Creative Media Program to be successful in the online environment. Videos have been the solution and I have learned how to create videos that have been tools that help my students as well as other teachers across the nation. Since the pandemic outbreak I have created videos for my five classes, Creative Critical Game Studies, History of Electronic Games, Introduction to 3D Modeling and Animation, 3D character Design, and Z Brush. In these classes students use critical skills in game development to produce products that demonstrate their abilities to follow fundamental game development procedures. I have found that making the videos less than ten minutes, including closed captions and my voice description of each process, as well humor from time to time, worked well for my students. In the month of October my videos for these classes alone have had 671 views and over 10,000 minutes of learners working with my videos. The link is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwRJuokqowN1rSfNSiaR17g In my workshop, I will share my videos and discuss their impact on students. I would welcome the opportunity to share my technique for making videos that has impacted my students and will help your students also! Although my approach of using videos applies most directly to game development and animation, it also applies to teaching any subject matter.
