Design and development of an AR application for STEM education based on Flow theory
Abstract: Augmented reality technology has been widely used in STEM teaching and has become a new trend of technology reform education. Immersive engagement in an augmented reality environment is also consistent with Flow theory, and learners can efficiently learn with the help of AR technology. However, due to high development cost and technical difficulty of AR application, its application in STEM education is very limited at present. Therefore, this study developed and tested an AR application developed by Maya and JAVA. The results showed that students' learning motivation was significantly improved after using AR application enhanced the interaction with the course, which was beneficial to students' learning. Notably, students were willing to recommend the application to others. Therefore, the AR application used in STEM teaching can improve students' learning motivation, support students' interaction and participation in real situations, and thus improve teaching process.
