Abstract: Teacher candidates’ curiosity is sparked as they explore Twitter as a part of an Approaches to Teaching Reading class. This presentation will report findings from a study that used Twitter as a vehicle for extending learning beyond the classroom. With the intentional immersion of Twitter with class content, teacher candidates reported an increase in participation and comfort level when using this social media tool. Teacher educators are encouraged to think critically about Twitter as a platform for learning, support, and collaboration. The presentation will discuss affordances of Twitter as it creates a means for inquiry for teacher candidates as they use this tool for professional development purposes.
