Abstract: The article investigates methods for the implementation of online teaching during the Covid-19 pandemic with pre-service teachers in a teacher education college, and discusses the contribution of personal journals and collaborative learning to the students’ sense of belonging. During the pandemic, when most of the teaching and learning was conducted online, collaborative learning activities offered increased value, allowing students to share reflective journals as a mode of ongoing interaction between students and the lecturer and reducing the learning burden on students. The findings presented here, are part of an ongoing effort to clarify how to provide an optimal online learner-centered environment during emergencies. Recognizing the advantages and disadvantages of online learning characteristics can help teachers and learners to exploit this media means optimally for both instructors and students. The present study hopes to contribute to the research literature by providing a conceptual framework for the unique characteristics of online learning processes and techno-pedagogical practices in emergency and routine situations, that contribute to the students' sense of belonging and enable them to track their growth and development throughout the course.
