Abstract: In this study, we examine the three levels of learner participation according to Leader Identification Model (LIM) and analyze the pattern how students emerge as leader roles including full facilitator, transactional facilitator and attractive facilitator. Then compare the appointed leader and emerging leader in group discussion. We collect 30 students’ discussion data in three phases who are in online collaborative learning. These students are pre-service teachers enrolled in a teaching design course.
