Abstract: Without an instructor appearing in their own course videos, students miss out on a significant amount of non-verbal communication and a big part of the instructor’s personality. There are several easy and no cost strategies to improve the instructor’s appearance in videos. In an effort to empower instructors to start including themselves in their videos, the goals of this paper are to 1) help instructors feel better about appearing in their own videos; and, 2) to assist instructor’s development resulting in possible improvement to the student experience. After a review of the literature, actions for improvement are grouped into changes to make; first, with equipment; next, simple changes to immediately make to one’s body; and, finally changes to make in attitude or approach. Suggested tasks to begin are included along with additional resources to pursue continuous improvement.
