Abstract: Training college radio DJs requires time, patience and attention to detail from all parties. Traditional training methods are useful but can require a large time investment in a one on one or small group setting. To free up training time to focus on hands on learning, an FCC licensed non-commercial college radio station is creating a flipped training experience. Rooted in storytelling and distance learning pedagogy, this training method is being developed and tested prior to removing the traditional training methods. This paper explores storytelling as an educational tool, college radio and the training needs in a non-commercial FCC licensed station, as well as the process of conceptualizing, writing and producing online story-based training for traditional college students and community volunteers.
