Panel: Flying High (and Low)! Drones in Education.
Abstract: In recent years, drones have emerged as powerful learning tools for students at all levels and across many disciplines. Likewise, drones have continued to play innovative and novel roles in society, from law enforcement to construction, from research to commerce. Yet, there are numerous security and safety issues that hamper the role drones could play in education and society. On the other hand, the evolving nature of drones and their expanding toolset will continue to provide opportunities for today’s students to explore these tools for years to come. The panel will address the current and potential role of drones in education, from coding opportunities for young learners to complex, technology tools for research, commerce, emergency services and more. Limitations and challenges to the adoption of drones in formal education settings will also be explored. The panel will also present some interesting international activities on drones in education.
