Abstract: The Curry School of Education and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Virginia are collaborating with the Charlottesville City Schools in Charlottesville, Virginia to develop professional development activities for in-service and pre-service elementary teachers that address computational thinking standards by combining coding with making. The activities are being piloted in an undergraduate teacher education course EDIS 3050: An Introduction to Design through Making and will be subsequently incorporated into professional development activities in the Charlottesville City Schools.
