Abstract: The concept of reducing Transactional Distance (Moore, 1989) with planned, strategic interaction treatments (Bernard et al., 2009) is paramount in distance learning to facilitate social, constructivist learning environment. This presentation will demonstrate how video-based interactive engagements were planned through course design. Principles of authentic learning (Herrington & Oliver, 2000) were embedded into the course design for planned learning experiences to facilitate collaboration, co-construction of knowledge, articulation of multiple perspectives, reflection, and access to experts. Real time video-conferencing facilitated access to experts, small group discussions, and scaffolding of student learning.
