Understanding the Attitudes of Students with Special Needs toward Virtual Assistive Technology
Abstract: This study examines the attitudes of college students with special needs toward a case study in the form of virtual storytelling. Traditional text-based readings have posed challenges to students with limited attention span (e.g., ADHD) or prevented those with dyslexia to understand verbal texts as effectively as others. Advances of technology provides an alternative learning format that allows students to watch how events happen in a virtual environment without having to decode the not too natural verbal world. The participants completed an assessment survey regarding how they like or dislike about the experience and gave comments regarding such assistive technology. Implications are discussed for future research.
