Online Tutoring: Exploring Pre-Service Teachers to Serve Rural/Native Area Students

Abstract: This study investigated twenty-four pre-service teachers’ perspectives and willingness on teaching in rural/native areas. After analyzing participants’ survey responses, this study found that participants who had been exposed to rural/native areas have a better understanding on culturally responsive teaching. This study suggests that in order to increase PSTs’ willingness to teach in rural/native areas, teacher education institutions should provide various opportunities for PSTs to gain insights about what a teacher would experience in rural/native areas.
