Abstract: Growing poverty rates mean that more teachers than ever are working with students in schools that serve low-income students and families. However, the subject of poverty has received very little attention in Teacher Education, and many teachers and teacher candidates do not feel well-prepared to work effectively in these settings. In addition, a review of the literature regarding educational practices with students in poverty yields perspectives that are not only varied, but often conflicting.
