Share Paper: Study on “Familiarity” When Reading Using an Electronic Medium

Abstract: In this research, “familiarity” was focused when reading using an electronic medium. The learning effect, due to the difference in “familiarity”, was examined by using a visual index (measurement of gazing point movement using eye mark recorder EMR-8), and a physiological index (measurement of stress value using Nipro salivary amylase monitor). One of the results showed that the participants who had used electronic media for a short period of time tended to increase the number of gazing point movements when reading using electronic media than when reading with paper.
