Share Paper: Exploring student engagement with digital storytelling content using factor analysis
Abstract: The present study examined the number and nature of factors underlying the construct of student engagement in a hybrid learning environment, specifically digital storytelling. Participants were pre-service teachers enrolled in a hybrid course that relied on digital storytelling to introduce the complex ideas of sustainability science. Self-report data was gathered from students (n= 316) on various course activities over a period of four years. Exploratory factor analysis supported a correlated three factor structure with 12 items reflecting ‘in-class participation’, ‘student-faculty interaction’, and ‘collaborative and integrative learning’ underlying the construct of student engagement.
