Abstract: In tandem with the growth of online courses and degree programs, remote proctoring of required exams becomes more important and necessary. The appropriate flexibility and accessibility of remote proctoring systems/procedures maintains and ensures the integrity of course assessments and curriculum in distance education. This study provides a critical review of the remote proctoring practices in online courses by exploring the various capabilities and procedures as identified by a number of universities in the United States.
