Abstract: The most challenging aspect of online teaching is the delivery of course material to the students in the environment where engagement and learning takes place. Even though there are many new technologies entering the market, online content delivery tools have not yet made full use of these new technologies. This paper is a preliminary report on the preparations of using the virtual reality tool Oculus Rift in the online teaching environment. The course is being designed in this environment with Unity software to enhance the learning environment and engage students in a format other than two-dimensional delivery such as web meetings, recorded audio and videos, etc. The virtual reality tools will allow the students to interact with the course material, as well as the instructor and other students, which will simulate a real time class environment.
