A-synchronous Online Communication with Cultural Professionals for Culturally Inclusive Instructions

Abstract: The Asynchronous Online Communication with Cultural Professionals, an innovative online instructional model, is designed for teacher candidates of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) learners to advance their understanding other culture and develop their skills of multicultural/diverse Science Lessons. For the study, the 22 teacher candidates, as part of their science method curriculum, participate in one-hour web-based discussion sessions through an asynchronous tool (VoiceThread) at least once with one of three cultural professionals who share their culture and history. The data of their self-efficacy tests and reflective discussions support the teacher candidates experience interdisciplinary activities to understand other culture and education, including history, politics, art, music, dance, food, clothes, housing, geography, and education, to understand science concepts behind the culture, and to create their own multicultural/diverse science lessons.
