Abstract: In the online classroom, instructors must be innovative in finding ways to promote student engagement. It is more different than the traditional classroom because the students are absent of the face-to-face classroom. But online instruction brings a new dimension to teaching because there are different ways to engage with others in the classroom. There are two primary fundamentals of student engagement: (a) the amount of time and effort students put into their studies and educationally purposeful activities, and (b) the way an institution uses its resources and organizes the curriculum and other learning opportunities to encourage student participation (Martin & Olsen, 2010). Sometimes, students participate more when there is an established community that they can join within the online classroom. Class discussions, team projects and presentations, and study groups can help students get to know one another and develop a sense of familiarity and cohesion (Strang, 2015). In this paper, I will discuss Live Classes, Discussions, Email, and Announcements and how they can increase student engagement in your online classes.
