Abstract: Teacher education providers have a central role to play in supporting pre-service teachers develop the knowledge and skills to use ICT in their practice. In Australia an increasing regulatory environment suggests that teacher education providers need to design programs that target the attainment of specific ICT professional standards. One area that pre-service teachers can experiment with and apply their ICT skills and knowledge is within the placement component of their programs. This paper reports on a goal-based, coaching approach to placement; in which pre-service teachers identified an elearning goal that they then enacted on placement with the support of a school-based coach. Two case studies describe the experience of two preservice teachers as they set, reviewed and enacted their goals to scrutinize the role of ICT in education during their placement.
