Abstract: The goal of this paper is to compile a list of the most commonly used components in creating collaborative learning environments. The following is a list of commonly used components: a culture of listening and communication, opportunities for students to be experts, designing lessons/projects that have both group and role specifics, provide reflective assessments that hold all accountable, and providing opportunities to change roles within the group to expand individual expertise. However, the lack of in-depth research on collaboration suggests that more research is needed regarding how effective these components are in the high school classroom.
