Reimagining the Acceptable Use Policy: Aligning technology administration and best practices in the classroom
Abstract: United States public schools and universities have been using Acceptable Use Policies (AUPs) to manage the use of technology for over a quarter of a century During that time, there has been a great deal of change in technology, but much less change in the policies Approaches to technology integration have also changed This research examines AUPs from 150 k-16 institutions determining their purpose and how they align to current understandings of technology integration This presentation will present data on the current state of AUPs, the current goals and standards for technology integration, and the alignment between the two The presentation will conclude with suggestions on what needs to be done to bring AUPs and instructional practice into alignment
