Share Paper: Flipping the Class Forward: Reflections on Challenges and Opportunities

Abstract: The flipped classroom has expanded significantly its influence and adoption in education over the past decade. The model has several variants but ultimately juxtaposes nicely with the 21st century emphasis on student active engagement in each design. This growing influence has come without an extensive base of empirical support for its improvement of student learning, however. This presentation will describe an attempt to flip a class in a teacher education unit on American Indian history and use that experience to connect with some of the gaps in the literature.
