Share Paper: Online Collaborating and Conferencing: Publishing Books with Pre-Service Teachers and Fifth Grade Writers
Abstract: Video-conferencing technology can allow for authentic reading and writing experiences to take place in teacher education courses. Partnering with a 5th Grade class in an 1:1 school environment, pre-service teachers worked individually with students to meet Common Core Standards for writing. The writer's workshop project allowed for face-to-face meetings. This collaboration and conversation made it possible for authentic writing conferences to take place. The partners wrote and illustrated fictional stories and then "published" a hard-covered children's book.
