Abstract: In this paper, we will discuss the various ways in which we have maximized learning opportunities provided by mixed-reality simulations in a classroom setting with student avatars, and a mixed reality office, with an adult avatar, as part of three graduate-level preservice teacher courses. The pros and cons of each method, including student feedback about their experiences, will be discussed in addition to implications for future implementation. The primary question guiding this paper was: How do professors and preservice teaching graduate students understand the utility of mixed reality simulations to prepare individuals for their work in urban school communities?
