Abstract: Instructional technology can be used to engage students in more flexible in-class learning experience, both in K-12 classrooms and in the university setting. This flexibility is also a foundation of a differentiated classroom. This paper will explore how instructional technology can be harnessed as a tool to help teachers 1) promote a positive learning environment, 2) gather formative assessment data, 3) proactively attend to the diverse learning needs of students, and 4) allow students to pursue tasks tailored to their interests.
