Abstract: This poster presentation shares the results of a randomized, controlled experiment conducted in a preschool setting. Specifically, the literacy and numeracy benefits young learners gained by using play-based learning via interactive computer games. Research results and their implications for teacher practice will be presented, as well as how this hybrid form of play-based pedagogy can enhance learning by developmentally engaging young learners’ interests with focused computer-assisted instruction (CAI). The poster presentation will be accompanied by a demonstration of the software used by the children in the research study. Attendees will also have the opportunity to interact with the play-based computer games.
