Abstract: Makerspaces have grown in popularity in recent years. Faculty members in our educational technology department are highly aware of this and take actions to provide high-quality professional preparation and development opportunities for pre-service and in-service teachers with special considerations to their learning needs. We created two blended courses, which encompass self-guided online learning and face-to-face laboratory sessions. In our presentation, we will show the audience how we designed the targeted professional preparation and development to pre-service and in-service teachers respectively. We will discuss the topics covered, teaching strategies and techniques used, and outcomes from the pilot implementations of these two courses. Meanwhile, we will also showcase makerspace artifacts created by pre-service and in-service teachers, highlight the lessons learned from these two pilot implementations, and share future action plans.
