Abstract: Reform efforts in U.S. public schools have aimed to raise standards, to invest in teachers and school leaders, and to turn around the lowest-performing schools. Independent schools are facing similar pushes toward improving teaching and learning. Educators are being encouraged to reconsider, refocus, and redesign traditional approaches to educating our country’s children. Standards are being raised, “traditional” teaching techniques are being challenged, and new technologies are being adopted. With this national push for more technologies in schools, teachers need more than just technology “know how” from professional learning experiences; professional development must also focus on pedagogy as it relates to technology integration. The purpose of this paper is to present the findings from the literature regarding the professional development for technologies in the independent schools.
