Not Another Workshop: Designing Quality Faculty Development that Supports Technology Use in Teacher Education
Abstract: Adequately preparing teacher candidates to use technology is essential due to the expectations they will face when they transition from the university classroom to K-12 settings and expectations for teachers’ technology use is increasing. This creates a call to action for faculty in teacher education to model the use of technology. The literature was reviewed to determine current trends in faculty development, the potential challenges surrounding development opportunities in teacher education, and design models that help to pinpoint best practices and inform leaders’ design of faculty development experiences. This presentation will include a review of key themes in the literature, examples of faculty development models that illustrate these themes, and recommendations for designing high quality faculty development that increases participants’ ability to model effective technology integration.
