Abstract: This paper presents literature from across disciplines useful for teaching teachers about the sociality of online environments. Offering three exemplary constructs related to social processes online, this essay provides a review of literature and awareness for instructional scholars and for those teaching teachers about online interaction. This essay can also inspire follow-up exploration among practitioners themselves in the event that these constructs resonate with them and relate to their practice and experiences. Throughout, this paper assumes and aims to assert that an interdisciplinary lens is useful for understanding the social dynamics in play when working, discussing, collaborating, teaching and learning in online or new-technology-based educational settings.
