Abstract: An instructor can be extremely knowledgeable in subject matter; however, if the course is not engaging, not relevant or too confusing, then learning may not occur, and the learners may disengage. Online learning shifts away from a directed approach/design to one of self-discovery on the part of the learner. A real challenge for online faculty, especially in the course design and delivery is the ability to create material and strategies that will not only appeal and engage the learners, but will encourage them to apply the information in real life situations.
