The impact of using the CBR 2™ on preservice teachers’ understanding of graphs
Brief Paper
ID: 45519
Abstract: Preservice teachers in an upper division algebra mathematics content course for elementary school teachers explored graphing through the use of CBRs (Calculator-Based Rangers™). They used the Distance Match feature of the technology. Using qualitative methodology, preservice teachers’ reflections regarding the use of CBRs were analyzed. Three themes emerged regarding the affordances of using CBRs: physical exploration, accuracy in understanding and visual support. The CBRs appeared to enrich the preservice teachers understanding of graphs.
