Share Paper: Comparing Learning Motivations in Video Games and College Courses

Abstract: This study is an initial comparison of learning motivations in video games and academics among undergraduate students. It includes a comparison of questions from the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire and parallel questions about video games. The questionnaire was given to 181 undergraduate students. This initial exploration shows relationships between many of the parallel questions, indicating a possible relationship between learning motivations in video games and in academics among college students. This will lead to further analyses, including comparison of video game strategies to general problem solving approaches, and consideration of demographic and other variables.
